"The Balcoms who came to Michigan are descended from John's second son, Joseph Balcom, with other citizens, took the Oath of Fidelity to the newly organized government at a town meeting at Mansfield, CT, on Sept 9, 1677. During the Revolutionary War he was a town officer and was chosen as lister. He was a builder and a large land owner. Those who are descended from Joseph Balcom are entitled to be members of the patriot societies - D.A.R. (Daughters of the American Revolution), or S.A.R. (Sons of the American Revolution).

Baptized November 17, 1728".

Joseph married Mary King, daughter of Samuel King and Mary Rose, on 10 Jan 1760. Mary was born on 16 Apr 1739 in Mansfield, CT and died on 12 Oct 1828 in Mansfield, CT aged 89.
